Knoxville Habitat for Humanity has a volunteer opportunity to fit every person’s interests and talents. Construction, administrative, retail… and even photography!
Two of our incredible volunteer photographers are the super-talented Kara Hudgens and Joel Pierce. They have provided Knoxville Habitat with an invaluable service. You’ve likely seen their beautiful photography on many of our communication materials, including our website, brochures, social media and displays.
Kara Hudgens
In 2016, Kara reached out to Knoxville Habitat looking for a way to incorporate her passion for photography with the needs of the organization. She never had any idea how special she would become to us.
Since she began volunteering, she has captured beautiful photos at every Women Build. She regularly attends dedications to capture the special moment when homeowners receive the keys to their new Habitat home. She attends our events to photograph our amazing volunteers, supporters and guest speakers. With her help, we have been able to share these beautiful moments with our homeowners and supporters.
When we needed additional help, Kara introduced us to her friend, Joel.
Joel Pierce
Joel has become another great friend of Knoxville Habitat. He is always quick to accept the opportunity to volunteer our homeowners in action. He has often followed a family’s journey through the Habitat program. He is there the day they raise the walls on their future home. And even photographs their home dedication and celebrates with them as they hold the keys to their new home.
We now gladly consider Kara and Joel part of our Habitat family. In 2017, they received an award reserved for special friends of Knoxville Habitat, the Sis Award. These awards are named after Sis Mitchell, who founded Knoxville Habitat in 1985. On their awards, we inscribed the 1 Peter bible verse that they both exemplify daily.
“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” – 1 Peter 4:10
