Four students at the University of Tennessee worked together to raise funds for Knoxville Habitat as part of a communications class project. One of the group members, Lauren, is the Treasurer of the Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter and decided that she would use her class project to support this spring’s Veterans Build.
The group interviewed several Knoxville Habitat staff and volunteers about their experience with the program. Armed with their knowledge and ambition, the students created a Go Fund Me page dedicated to what they named “Homes for Heroes.” They set a goal of $2,000 to fund the purchase of roofing supplies, shingles and solid decking. These materials are crucial to providing a safe, affordable home for a local veteran family.
By asking their friends, family and fellow students to donate, these fantastic students exceeded their goal and raised $2,104 towards the 2020 Veterans Build. Fundraising volunteers make a huge impact and support our mission to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope in the Knoxville area.
