Kimberly is a loving mother of two sweet kids, Harmony (9) and Nino (4). They are all excited about the next big step in their lives, as they discover the strength and stability of homeownership.
As a family, they enjoy church together. They are very close with their church community and look forward to attending Sunday services every week. Harmony enjoys cheerleading in her free time, while Nino’s says his favorite hobby is spending time at Chuck E Cheese.
This family is busy, outgoing and cheerful, and Kimberly is always looking for ways that she can improve the lives of her children. When someone told her about the Knoxville Habitat Homeownership Education program, she knew that she had to apply for this amazing opportunity.
Even though Kimberly works in healthcare full time, she would not have qualified for a conventional mortgage. But through Knoxville Habitat, she will have the opportunity to be a successful homeowner by purchasing her home with an affordable, no-interest mortgage. And while she has been working toward her 500 hours of sweat equity through the program and volunteer hours, Kimberly is earning the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle the responsibilities of homeownership.
Kimberly and her children have lived for eight years in a crowded two-bedroom apartment, with Harmony and Nino sharing a room. In their new Habitat home, both kids will have their own room to grow and thrive. Kimberly is also excited to move out of their cramped space, saying that the “older they get, the less room we have.”
Kimberly is eager to buy her new home and pay toward something that she will own. Her no-interest, affordable mortgage will be a welcomed change from making an expensive rent payment on something that will never be truly hers.
Harmony and Nino are so excited about the move. Kimberly drives them by their future homesite often to remind them why she is working so hard. They look forward to playing outside in their new neighborhood and maybe even put up a basketball goal!
