Thomas faced an impossible choice: Comfort, safety, and independence? Or food and medicine?
Thomas* is a proud man. He worked hard all his life, raised a family, and retired with little savings, but he owned his home! Now, this elderly U.S. Army veteran’s only income is $1,000 a month from Social Security.
It isn’t surprising then that, over the years, his house fell into serious disrepair, and this winter Thomas faced almost certain displacement from his familiar, cherished home. Severe roof leaks made it impossible to keep the house dry, warm, or safe, but the cost to replace his roof was more than half of his entire annual income.
Can you imagine if this was your father or grandfather? A brave, once strong man who sacrificed for our country, now forced to live in damp, cold rooms. Tolerating miserable conditions because his only other choice is to forfeit the two things he values most: his home and his independence.
This is where many Knoxville seniors find themselves, in homes that need major, costly repairs that must be completed before any smaller maintenance work can be done. Now, you can help.
Join our HopeBuilders monthly giving club, and you can help seniors like Thomas remain safely in their own homes and avoid costly accidents and falls.
With your convenient, affordable monthly gift, you ensure respect and care for all of Knoxville’s elderly, especially those on starkly limited income. You will give them safety, dignity, and the priceless assurance of remaining in the comfort of familiar surroundings, where their most precious memories were made.
While several area organizations provide home repairs, little or no resources are available for the largest, most expensive projects: roofs and HVAC systems. Knoxville Habitat for Humanity saw the devastating effects of this service gap on our low-income seniors and responded.
Through HopeBuilders, your monthly gifts can help your older neighbors live longer in their own homes.
Thanks to donors like you, Thomas now lives safely and comfortably in his own home, where his grandchildren can visit again without concerns for their safety. Give now and help 12 more waiting seniors just like Thomas get the home repairs they need.
In gratitude,
Kelle Shultz | President/CEO
