Knoxville Habitat for Humanity partners with families in Knox County to help them build a place they can call home. Knoxville Habitat homeowners put in 500 hours of sweat equity and then work alongside volunteers as they help build their own homes.

The required sweat equity hours are acquired through our homeownership education program that includes classes on budgeting, home repair, construction, how to be a good neighbor and more. Future homeowners can also earn hours from volunteer work, and even children can help earn hours through good grades on their report cards.

After helping in the construction of their home, homeowners then purchase their home and pay an affordable zero-percent interest mortgage.

The self empowerment created by this opportunity helps homeowner families eliminate barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable life. We believe that with a little help, we all have the potential to stand on our own.
