Meagan is the model of a dedicated, hardworking mother – she goes above and beyond to provide the best possible life for her three young children, D’Anthony (6), Mariah (5) and Ja’marius (3).
As a family that likes to constantly “stay on the go,” it is no surprise that Meagan and her children love spending time together. Their favorite hobby is playing board games like Candyland, Mouse Trap and Hi! Ho! Cherry-O. Meagan’s goal is to get her children involved in sports as a way to keep them busy and involved.
D’Anthony, Mariah and Ja’marius are sweet, energetic children that love to run around and play. Unfortunately, that is not possible in the apartment where they live now. After hearing gunshots outside and having several incidents in their complex, Meagan does not feel safe with her kids playing outside. As a concerned mother, she knew that her family’s living situation had to change.
When Meagan first applied for a Knoxville Habitat for Humanity home, she was not immediately accepted into the program but learned how she could be. After working to get her finances in order, she reapplied and was accepted. While she was excited by the possibility of owning her own home, she decided that she needed to continue her education before taking on the responsibilities of homeownership.
Knowing that she didn’t want to work another dead-end job, Meagan enrolled in technical school and graduated with honors. She is now a Medical Assistant with a clinic that focuses on Alzheimer’s and other dementias and works directly with patients battling these diseases. She is so thankful that she decided to take this step to “level up” her life and loves her rewarding work.
After finishing her education and starting her career, Meagan knew that it was the right time for her family to have a place to call home. Her new home will “mean everything” to her and her children.
Meagan has worked hard to get to this point and is excited for what the future holds. Her goal is that her Habitat home “will give [her kids] structure in life.” After moving from apartment to apartment their whole lives, she wants them to know their new home “is where they belong.”
D’Anthony, Mariah and Ja’marius are so excited to have their very own yard so they can run and play as much as they want. They all agree that they are most excited about the possibility of getting a trampoline once they move into their new Habitat home.
